In the South East criminal damage accounts for over one third of British Crime Survey (BCS) comparator crime, so reducing it will have an impact on overall crime reduction.
Criminal damage is frequently seen as a minor crime, but neglected physical environments are unsafe, cause fear and undermine pride in the local community. Criminal damage can also be seen as a catalyst to other forms of anti-social behaviour and crime.
GOSE’s role
GOSE’s Community Safety Team supports local Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnerships to reduce criminal damage.
GOSE has developed a Self Help Package on Criminal damage which is designed to help local partnerships think through their approach to analysing and tackling criminal damage and to signpost them to guidance and possible interventions. It also contains good practice examples.
