Sports and Recreation

Sport England South East is responsible for making sure that the Government's sporting objectives in the region are met. It distributes both National Lottery and Exchequer funding for sport. For some time, Sport England has worked closely with the Government Office for the South East both in partnership with the Culture, Media and Sport Unit and through a series of staff secondments contributing to programmes for young people at risk of offending.

The Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) aims to improve the quality of life for all through providing better sporting opportunities at every level. Sport is very powerful both in the pursuit of excellence and helping to tackle social and health problems. The 2004 Spending Review will bring £431 million from central government for sport over the period 2005 to 2008. More information on the national picture

More recently, Sport England has worked  with the Government Office for the South East’s Public Health Group, on the development of 'Move It! A Framework for Action on Physical Activity in the South East'.
