Applying for Funding

How Objective 2 works in the South East

Objective 2 is overseen by a Programme Monitoring Committee (PMC) made up of local authorities, community groups, business, skills and education interests, environmental interests, The Government Office for the South East and the South East England Development Agency. This committee sees that all arrangements for developing projects and for agreeing which should be supported are fair and open.

How much money is available?

Projects can apply for a maximum of 50% of each project’s total eligible costs. Project applicants need to find the other 50% themselves (this is called ‘matched funding’). Matched funding can come from other public sources (like Lottery Funds or the Single Regeneration Budget) or from ‘in kind’ (free of charge) sources. Proof of matched funding is also required before a project will be approved. Grants are paid in arrears, usually quarterly.

Who approves funding?

Projects are scored by impartial and independent appraisers called the Programme Steering Committee (PSC), again drawn up from local interested organisations.

How to apply

To apply for funding, the project must be within specific areas of the South East (please see the map on the European Funding section home page) and fit one of the priorities and measures set out in the Single Programming Document (SPD) (the document approved by the commission detailing the strategy, priorities, objectives and funding of the programme) and the Programme Complement – which details how the measures, strategy, aims, finance and outputs will implement the objectives in the SPD.

The four priorities within the Single Programming Document are:

  • business development and innovation
  • planning and infrastructure development
  • heritage, culture and the environment
  • community economic development

You can download the South East Regional Priorities and see how your project idea may fit into the programme’s objectives by following the link at the bottom of the page.

Download the Application form and Annex from the list at the bottom of the page, along with the guidance notes. However, please do not complete the forms until you have discussed your project with the local authority.

To see the ‘Projects Selection Criteria’, which is applied to all projects, you can download the documents under related links.

Alternatively you can contact us – european.gose@go-regions.gsi.gov.uk

When can you apply?

You can submit a project application at any time. It will be considered by the subsequent PSC meeting, provided that it has been received before the deadline for that meeting.
