Preventing Radicalisation across the Country

Published: Mon, 21 Jan 2008 13:39:25

Home Secretary Jacqui Smith made her first major speech on 17 January about preventing radicalisation across the country.

The Secretary of State was speaking at a conference hosted by Kings College London to launch the International Centre for the Study of Radicalisation and Political Violence (ICSR).

Jacqui Smith speech (attached in full) made clear that:

  • Our understanding of the causes of violent extremism has improved greatly;
  • Objectives have been agreed across Government and with the police;
  • The counter-radicalisation agenda covers the local, the national and the international; and
  • We now have more programmes and extra funding.
