Lord Darzi's NHS Next Stage Review - final report published

The report sets out a vision for an NHS that will give patients more say through initiatives such as care plans for those with long term conditions and a guarantee that the most effective drugs will be available to all.

Patients will have a new legal right to select a GP practice and choose between different types of treatment.  Personal budgets will be piloted for 5000 patients with complex conditions.

People will be helped to stay healthy through the investment of record amounts in well-being and prevention services. This includes a new 'Reduce Your Risk' campaign to raise awareness of free vascular checks for 40-74 year-olds.

The Review is first and foremost a local process. Each Strategic Health Authority (SHA) has produced a summary document that presents the vision for better health and social care in their region.
