Crawley: Tackling transport the Fastway

A state-of-the-art, £35 million guided bus system – ‘Fastway’ – helps to reduce traffic congestion, by encouraging commuters to take the bus.

The system’s onboard technology and dedicated guideways at traffic bottlenecks mean that each bus can be tracked via satellite and traffic lights turned green if the bus is late.

Plans to expand the system with a possible park-and-ride scheme are already being considered to service the new rejuvenated town centre.

Since its launch in September 2003 Fastway has carried over three million passengers – 41% ahead of its target - and bus use has risen by 23%.
